Every Tesla we saw on our walk to dinner last night had a similar message. This is North London.

@dee it's not wrong, and I don't disagree (I despise Musk, don't own any car, and wish he was irrelevant), I'm genuinely curious as to what people think the effect of this kind of action will be? (Positive or negative)

I was just thinking, say I bought a Tesla a bunch of years ago, because I didn't want fossil fuel powered cars, and didn't really know much about Musk...me owning it isn't a political statement. I'm not in that situation so I don't know how I would feel exactly, but plenty of people here in Denmark own Teslas, and only some of them are Musk fans

But it's hard to separate any of that now... Tesla and Musk are inextricably linked, and Musk is a Nazi.

@zeyus the cars are less desirable, and this is visibly so now... even for those unaware of things, they see it on the screen of cars as they pass.

this impacts resell value, who wants a Tesla when they're so inextricably linked to a fascist?

resell value being dented so heavily results in the new car value being reduced too, part of buying a car is a value for money proposition. we all know that driving a car off the forecourt immediately has a huge depreciation, and the question is how much? if it depreciates below the terms of a 3-4y finance plan and you're left with no option to purchase (because the value of the car is far below what you need to make as a final payment)... then do you really want to do a 3-4y finance plan? you could easily choose a Merc EQE, or BMW ev now and have a bargain on your hand at the end of the finance plan.

it's subtle... but the reputation of the car brand being so linked to Musk does negatively affect 2nd hand prices, and that is a strong incentive to buy new from elsewhere.

@dee yeah that's true I didn't think about it from that angle, but absolutely it would impact the resale value, and people might avoid Teslas more if they think they might be a target of vandalism etc
