What is it with sites that flash a screen to test if a human is at the other end and asking to press a button and hold it for three seconds? WTF? No way I’m doing that. It’s too much like : click on this link and you’ll win a fucking prize type of scam.

Why should any site need to know who or what is at the other end of the connection? There are many ways to prevent whatever it is that they are presumably ‘protecting’ with these shenanigans. I also rue the fact that any remotely ‘financial’ sites use the google ‘pick all bicycles’ game to do the same. There are many other ways to ensure the ‘client’ is ‘human’ (multi-factor authentication, dongle, biometrics, etc.)

Enshitification? Lazy programming? Bad design? Done on the cheap? Or just plain scamming and/or harvesting? All of these are symptomatic of #enshitification in my view.

I like this use of side notes/footnotes at https://www.citationneeded.news/free-and-open-access-in-the-age-of-generative-ai/ . Footnotes use letters to distinguish them from numbered references, and are duplicated as side notes on large screens. I also like the “Show buttons that expand the side note” or “Include side notes after the paragraph on small screens” approaches on other sites. #webdesign #sidenotes

I started building a website for my sister just to know how WordPress.com works. And surprisingly I'm having a lot of fun. It's a basic website for now as she can't afford a premium plan for premium features, but it's coming out good.

I never used WordPress before. It's working for me because my html and css knowledge is limited and most theme layouts are just fine. No need to reinvent the wheel writing a layout from scratch. I just edit blocks as needed.

Well, let's see if I can do more projects in the future. I'm getting the hang of it.

Ana Rodrigues: In defense of unpolished personal websites. “My imperfect and unpolished code on my personal website isn’t the full reflection on my technical abilities or knowledge of web development standards. It’s a constant draft where my handwriting is legible and where I want optimization takes a backseat. It’s where I use the little free time I have to actually write on it and […]

I've recently done some minor tweaks on linuxdaw.org here and there.

Today I added a "Compact" toggle, which allows for a more compact view if you just wanna focus on the screenshots.
