Calling politics and climate change junkies in #Canberra !!

The good people at the Conservation Council are taking their own sweet time getting off Meta.

So sharing this here for the fediverse enabled, climate & politics junkies in #canberra .... Toot toot!!

"At this forum, local candidates and politicians representing each major political party will be asked questions on their commitments to nature protection and climate action. There will also be the opportunity for questions from the audience.

We have invited representatives representing each major political party, who we will question on their commitments for nature protection and climate action. There will also be the opportunity for questions from the audience. We have so far had confirmation from (in last name alphabetical order):

Isabel Mudford: Candidate for Canberra, ACT Greens
Alicia Payne: Federal Member for Canberra, ACT Labor
David Pocock: Independent Senator for the ACT "

I do like a good bit of understatement.

"There is one thing that is clear about these tariffs. Their imposition will be in violation of both the WTO rules and the free-trade agreement. ... However, the rule of law and existing norms of the international order do not appear to be persuasive to the Trump administration."

I think Australia would be better off stepping back from the US and looking for alternatives for both trade directions.

Apparently this thought bubble says that the Voice was the wrong referendum but increasing the Minister's powers so that the courts aren't involved in stripping citizenship, is the right issue for a referendum. That's what we need in this country is Trump style executive powers to be abused.

An Australian super fund has been hit with a $10.5 million penalty for greenwashing.

The Federal Court found Active Super, formerly known as Local Government Superannuation Scheme, misled members and potential members by saying it had eradicated investments in gambling, coal mining and oil tar sands.

The fund also claimed to have eliminated Russian investments following the country's invasion of Ukraine.

Justice David O'Callaghan found that between February 2021 and June 2023, Active Super actually held investments in these types of assets, including coal miners Whitehaven Coal and Coronado Global Resources. #greenwashing #auslaw #auspol #superannuation

#PeterDutton share trading scandal is just the tip of the iceberg. A much larger issue is plaguing Australian politics: politicians from both major parties are using their positions to profit through stock trading and hidden trusts. 💰
From Labor to Liberal, it’s clear the system is being gamed – all while they claim to represent everyday Australians.
