@cxberger so basically that #chatroom has no / insufficient #moderators then?
- I guess this means it's kinda self-inflicted then??

This instance appears to be spamming with the hashtag "Space X"

@adhdeanasl also #Scammers can't really buy range like they can on #BillionaireSocialMedia:
Shure one could get #bots to #boost stuff, but those won't pop up in users' feeds unless they follow one #bot that boosted it.
AFAIK no #ActivityPub implementation even supports sponsored content / #ads unlike #Treads / #NSAbook, #BlueSky or #Shitter.
Above-Average #TechLiteracy and actual #moderators quickly yeet #scammers and their posts...
Burnout is a persistent issue with one in five moderators report experiencing trauma or burnout this year, underlining the need for wellness and resilience resources.
If you relate to this, IFTAS Connect offers support and resources to cope with many common issues for moderators and it’s free: https://about.iftas.org/2024/05/29/iftas-connect-a-community-for-fediverse-moderators/ .

A new era of lies: Mark Zuckerberg has just ushered in an extinction-level event for truth on social media.
The Meta boss’ decision to get rid of the platform’s 40,000 moderators has set the stage for a fact-free four years online.
The 2024 Needs Assessment results are in so stay tuned for some really interesting info on what moderators and admins think are the big issues facing them at the moment.
We’ll be sharing some stats over the coming weeks so make sure you’re following us to see them!
There are no walls on a spider’s web.
We want a web where everyone can participate, where everyone is safe from abuse and harm, where civil society can flourish, where people can meet, learn, share, live, love, laugh.
Our founding grants have delivered a “do not interact list,” the CARIAD block list, FediCheck, a moderator library, prototype of an opt-in CSAM detection and reporting service, the IFTAS Connect community, and more.
We are wrapping up the annual Moderator Needs Assessment and will be posting the findings soon, stay tuned!
What do you think the top 5 will be?
@ColetteDiskette #BlueSky was inherently designed to be garbage.
#Funfact: #Dorsey left it once it became clear they need #moeration and #moderators!
Just wanted to thank the official @auschwitzmuseum account for doubling a good #moderation tool: the replies very good place for #moderators to find which people and servers to block.
Obviously they don't want or at all deserve the harassment, but they sure do make a good lightning rod.
Looks like #Mastodon.social is getting hit with one of those #spambots that tags random people with an ad. Better keep an eye out, #FediMod / #moderators. Bit of a #Spam wave going on, might spread to other servers soon.
#URGENT #UPDATE please boost.
You may have been here a while and not realised. There is no corporate central body running #mastodon!
Each instance/server is run independently. If you get any grief/abuse report to YOUR moderators!
If they don’t respond/ignore you- it means they support the #abuse.
You not only never need to get sexual/racisl/homophobic or any other form of abuse- nobody else does either.
#Moderators can boot #trolls.
Even better if a moderator allows abuse on their server the whole server can be blocked= self policing safe space.
Instances that allow toxic behaviour are not actually seeing most of the #fediverse they are in a toxic bubble.
Speak to your moderators. If they don’t respect you leave!
You can find somewhere safe and fun through the instance search- try, LGBT, Science, Nature or Anarchist!
Our 2024 moderator survey received over 120 responses representing nearly two million hosted accounts. While we work on the final report, we have some early highlights on the Blog: https://about.iftas.org/2024/10/16/2024-survey-early-highlights/ .
Early data shows a continued need for help with CSAM, spam, NCII and core moderation guidance.
A big thank you to everyone who took part.
We believe that the protocol level needs signals built in to it to allow for trust and safety that is broad across all Fediverse.
If that doesn’t happen it’s very expensive and clunky to build solutions for all different servers and platforms.
How do you think we can achieve that?
#AllThingsTech is currently looking for a moderator for our instance. Someone that can help with reports that come in, as well as various other little things.
If you are interested, please let myself or @beardedtechguy as we'd love to talk to you and possibly bring you on board.
IFTAS Connect is free to join. We invite all Fediverse moderators, community managers, trust and safety professionals, and academic researchers to request access to IFTAS Connect.

3/3 #Moderators
IFTAS Connect provides moderators, community managers and anyone engaged in creating a safer Internet with a wealth of tools, resources, and a supportive network to help them connect, collaborate, and navigate the complexities of federated content moderation.
We’ve worked with a broad array of moderators and advisors to kick-start the available resources – and we hope many more will join and contribute their experience.
2/3 #Moderators
Here’s one thing we’re working on at the moment:
Lillian and Jon have been conducting a survey of moderators to help guide the production of a number of templates for moderation teams, including a moderator agreement and code of conduct.
Longer-term this will become a handbook for hands-on moderator activities.
Reminder to the people #shitposting on #FediBlock that a LOT of staffs use that as an early-warning system, and most of us know to ignore the drama and pettiness that shows up on there. You're not "making a stand", you're getting up in front of all the #moderators and screaming, "Look at me, I'm disruptive!", and that's going to get you on the bad side of a lot more mods than you think.
Might want to not do that.
If you want to criticize FediBlock, by all means do, but if you want people to listen, do so with actual criticisms and maybe suggestions, and maybe figure out how people are actually using it.
