Queer Romance Club MARCH selection: I Shall Never Fall in Love by Hari Conner

I’ve deployed my tie-breaker to opt for this one, a YA-leaning graphic novel inspired by Jane Austen. I’ve put the tied book, Set in Stone on my TBR list, and look forward to reading it down the track (next time I re-up Kobo Plus, probably, and that’ll be July-ish).

From the ISNFIL blurb: The Prince and the Dressmaker goes to Austenland in this historically inspired, joyfully queer, stunningly romantic graphic novel mash-up of Jane Austen novels—where two friends discover their feelings for each other and find a space in their world for their love and identity.

Find it at your favourite retailer or it should be available at your library. Note the two possible covers.

QRC is open to ALL fans of queer romance: read at your own pace and post your commentary any time.

Queer Romance Club FEBRUARY 2025 selection: Leather Lace and Locs by Anne Shade

No tiebreaker needed this month! (Though I probably would have gone for this one anyway because it’s been a while since we’ve had f/f and/or poly, and we are a QUEER romance club, not just gay romance group…)

From the blurb: Three friends, each on their own path, discover love could lead to happily ever after.

#AmReading Thoroughly Disenchanted by Alexandra Almond

Bounced off a couple of light books that weren’t the escapism I was looking for, a historical romance and a what-happens-to-the-heroes-after-they-win fantasy, both of which were perfectly fine, but were both contemporaries in disguise as is a current trend (the historical had young characters with completely modern attitudes in pretty dresses, the fantasy had tv, phones and coffee shops via magic, neither are what I read those genres for).

But then tried this one on a whim and enjoyed it (with a few minor quibbles), Australian debut author, cosy fantasy mystery with a sweet queer romance and a very pleasant set of MCs that I liked spending time with.

And it was only when I read the author bio at the end where she mentions her love of football that I twigged that she is my friend’s sister, because Australia is a very small place 😂

Queer Romance Club JANUARY 2025 selection: Roland Rogers Isn’t Dead Yet by Samatha Allen.

I am once again deploying my tie-breaker to opt for Roland Rogers Isn’t Dead Yet. I think it’ll be more widely available than the tied book, A Bloomy Head, and apparently has a love-to-hate character, so that might provoke some discussion…

(Note, though, that if you like Regency, especially if it’s not about dukes, I highly recommend A Bloomy Head. I thought it had a bit of a T Kingfisher vibe with its no-nonsense practical lead character, and also was all-round charming-with-murder)

From the RRIDY blurb: In this “unlikely romance for the ages” (Camryn Garrett), a ghostwriter is handed the gig of a lifetime, except there’s a catch: the client, a closeted A-list actor finally ready to come out in his memoir, is an actual ghost—and the sparks flying between the men are becoming a little too real.

@adriabailton thanks for hosting #writephant 😊

I’m the author of non-epic fantasy books with romantic subplots (often queer), towards the cosy end of the spectrum but with lots of plot and some angst. Check out my website for more info and buy links (ebook and print)
