GENESIS
Foxtrot
1976 U.S. reissue

Ahhh, the super weird Genesis reigns supreme.

I have lots of friends who I’ve known for over 40 years. And I cannot get them to get with me on early Genesis, particularly Foxtrot, which is my preferred Genesis album.

I’ve put the opener “Watcher Of The Skies” on many a mix tape/CD for people over the years, & the response is always the same.
“Things were sounding great until it got to that Genesis tune.”

JENNIFER WARNES
First We Take Manhattan / Coming Back To You
1986 Canada 7” single

Warnes’ version of Leonard Cohen’s song “First We Take Manhattan” definitely goes in my Top 10 favorite covers of all time.
Her whole album of Cohen covers is quite excellent (Famous Blue Raincoat), and Cohen didn’t even release his version of Manhattan until almost 2 years AFTER Warnes’ version (on I’m Your Man).

Nice little morsel for last spin of the night.

“WEIRD AL” YANKOVIC
Dare To Be Stupid
1985 Canada pressing

My Sunday is about to get very weird and very stupid.

Weird Al is a king among peasants. He will always be celebrated in my house for the genius he is, and I will tolerate NO slander or shit talk about the greatest poet laureate of our time.

TERENCE TRENT D’ARBY
Introducing The Hardline According To Terence Trent D'Arby
1987 Canada pressing

File under:
A very VERY poor man’s Prince.

D’Arby thought he was more talented than he actually was. Although this album IS very good, it was all he ever had to offer.
This didn’t turn out to be “the most significant thing to happen to music since Sgt. Pepper’s” like he told everyone, & the rest of his career was, well… can we call it a CAREER?

JOHN PRINE
John Prine
#70s Canada reissue

This album is like an old friend; a total comfort record in every way, by an absolute genius, and one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Prine’s first FIVE records are utter works of art, shining beacons in an endless sea of #1970s singer/songwriters.
After that, his work maintained a level of quality throughout the decades that few artists, regardless of genre, can rival.
I miss him dearly.

PARIS WORKING
The Paris Working
1983 U.S. pressing

A blind gamble that paid off handsomely.

A short, but excellent #synthpop / #newwave listen.

These 5 songs were their ONLY songs, as it appears this was their only release.

A pretty obscure but fantastic little E.P. for fans of the genre.
The guitar work on “Pieces Of Heaven” is really great, and sounds like it could have been in an #80s John Hughes movie.

WILLIE NELSON
Red Headed Stranger
1976 Canada reissue

Guess I’m having a #country day today.
From one legend to another.

There is no dude whose career I’d want more than Willie’s.

Make killer untouchable music for decades, smoke tons of weed, be a legend on a daily basis, and smoke more weed after that.

“Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain” is one of those Desert Island Songs for me.

All hail King Willie.

MARVIN GAYE
Great Songs And Performances That Inspired The Motown 25th Anniversary T.V. Special
1983 Canada pressing

Sending myself to a soulful sleep.

Can’t think of anything better to spin on a very hushed, quiet late night.

Marvin’s voice takes me back to a very particular place and time when I was a kid. It’s a place and time with happy memories, in a past that didn’t have a lot of them.

Marvin will always be comfort music.

AND back to PinkFloyd again. Atom Heart Mother is the fifth studio album by Pink Floyd. It was released by Harvest on 2 October 1970 in the United Kingdom, and on 10 October 1970 in the United States. It was recorded at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road Studios) in London, and was the band's first album to reach number 1 in the UK, while it reached number 55 in the US, eventually going gold there.

PETER SCHILLING
Error In The System
1983 Canada pressing

Saturday night Schilling!!!

Those who know me know that I’m a sucker for early & mid #80s #synthpop , particularly if you strip away all of the synths, keyboards & 80s production, and it can be stripped down and presented several different ways.

The MASSIVE hit aside, there are a few other great, catchy songs here, particularly the opener “Only Dreams”.
I still love & adore this record.
